OUR GREEN PHILOSOPHY

The philosophy of The Earth Collection has always been to produce products with respect for both the natural environment and for the people we work with. While we are not involved in the growing of the raw materials, we ensure that the entire manufacturing process is environmentally and socially responsible. This includes stringent and specific requirements to each phase of the production.

Likewise emphasis is put on the social working conditions in the factories. The Earth Collection enjoys more than ten years working relationship with the majority of the factories we work with. To provide you with a better understanding of our procedures, please find below a short simplified description of each phase in the production.

1. PRE-WASH

First we remove impurities such as dirt and grease. This pre-wash is done with a very mild soap solution or with enzymes. In order to achieve a homogeneous colour and shade, we bleach the fabrics gently with the use of hydrogen peroxide in a closed system ensuring that neither the workforce nor the environment is harmed in the process. Hydrogen peroxide dissolves into water and air.

2. DYEING

In the dyeing process we exclusively use dyes that do not contain heavy metals and dyes that have a very high fixation. Most importantly for the above processes is that we only work with dye houses that clean and recycle their waste water.

3. AFTER TREATMENT

No harmful softeners or surface treatments are used in our after treatment. The soft surface and handle is obtained with enzymes or by mechanical means instead.

4. OPTIMIZING USE OF MATERIALS

Leftover fabrics from our productions are re-used whenever possible. For instance we have employed leftover fabrics to make our so called “Rag Bag” and a range of other products, and it is our intention to constantly develop new products in this manner.
